FSU Honors Night to recognize outstanding students
Some of The Florida State University’s top students will be recognized this week as the Office of the Provost, in conjunction with academic honor societies Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Kappa, presents the 2010 Honors Night Ceremony. The event, which will feature a keynote address from Florida State President Eric J. Barron, will take place:

At the ceremony, a total of 10 students will receive the university’s 2010 Outstanding Senior Scholar Award. That award is given each year to students who have completed the course requirements of the university’s general honors program, completed and defended an Honors in the Major thesis, and are scheduled to graduate summa cum laude. Each will receive $100. This year’s recipients, their majors and hometowns are:
- Joshua Cossuth, Meteorology. Hometown: Cocoa Beach, Fla.
- Felicia Holloman, Philosophy. Hometown: Tampa, Fla.
- Evan Kalina, Meteorology. Hometown: Miami, Fla.
- Jesse Klein, Sociology. Hometown: Inverness, Fla.
- Will Overholt, Biological Science. Hometown: Fort Pierce, Fla.
- Alana Resmini, Psychology. Hometown: Sunrise, Fla.
- Kevin Uhler, History. Hometown: Cooper City, Fla.
- Kurt Vinhage, Mathematics. Hometown: Bradenton, Fla.
- Julie Walker, Spanish. Hometown: McDonough, Ga.
- John Walsh, Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. Hometown: Palmetto, Fla.
Next, the Phi Beta Kappa Society, an honor society recognizing the highest standards of achievement in liberal arts, will announce the Marion Jewell Hay Award winner. The award and $300 are presented to a student who is graduating summa cum laude and has conducted outstanding research.
Finally, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will present awards and money ranging from $500 to $750 to three outstanding students. The society, which recognizes excellence in all disciplines, will honor the following:
- Jeremy R. Bary, the Undergraduate Scholar Award recipient and a national Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship nominee. Bary, a biology major, hails from Dutch Quarter, St. Maarten, Netherland Antilles.
- Joshua D. Englehardt, recipient of the Graduate Scholar Award. Englehardt, a doctoral candidate in anthropology, is from Orlando, Fla.
- Yi-Jen Wu, recipient of the Artist Award. A doctoral candidate in art education; Wu is from Taipei City, Taiwan.
Gregory Beaumont, Florida State’s associate dean of Undergraduate Studies, will conclude the Honors Night Ceremony.
