Students to Share International Experiences at 'Going Global' Showcase
Florida State University students who have studied, interned, served or conducted research abroad will discuss their intercultural experiences — and offer advice for others interested in broadening their knowledge of other cultures — at the third annual Going Global: A Showcase of Student Discovery, scheduled to take place later this week.
Going Global, which is free and open to the public, will be held:
FRIDAY, NOV. 20
3 – 5 P.M.
ROOM 201/203
STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING, 874 TRADITIONS WAY
THE FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY
The annual event gives students an opportunity to explain to their peers the inspiration, personal enrichment and enjoyment that participation in intercultural opportunities provides. Using displays, the students will showcase a variety of options available to young people wishing to travel to other countries, including internships, service projects, study abroad, academic research and cultural exchanges. Attendees will have an opportunity to talk to the students and enjoy international food and music.
This year, the student presenters have traveled to more than 20 countries on five continents. Some of their destinations include Tanzania, Rwanda, Liberia, Ecuador, Germany and Spain.
Julie LeBlanc, a junior majoring in social work at Florida State, was selected to share her experiences at Going Global after spending her spring break serving with the nonprofit organization Fundecoipa in Ecuador through Alternative Break Corps <http://www.wix.com/fsuabc/noles> .
“I am excited to be able to talk to students about my experience as well as hear about other students’ global endeavors,” LeBlanc said.
Going Global: A Showcase of Student Discovery is a part of International Education Week, a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education that is observed by universities throughout the United States. International Education Week is part of an effort to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in this country.
Friday’s event is sponsored by the Center for Leadership and Civic Education, the International Center and International Programs at The Florida State University.
