FSU Recognizes BB&T Regional President With Circle of Gold Award

The Florida State University Alumni Association has recognized a distinguished alumna with one of the association’s highest awards.

Nancy “Nan” Casper Hillis, regional president of the Central Florida Region of BB&T, received a Circle of Gold Award recently at a College of Business Board of Governors Dinner. She is a resident of Winter Park, Fla.

The FSU Alumni Association bestows the prestigious award to worthy individuals who, through their service and achievements, personify the university’s tradition of excellence. Nearly 175 men and women have been inducted into the Circle of Gold since the Alumni Association established the award in 1993.

“Members of the Circle of Gold have one thing in common: They love Florida State University and are committed to making it a world-class university,” said Alumni Association Board Chairman Don Eddings, who presented the award. “Nan Hillis has demonstrated her love and dedication for this university time and again, so it is especially meaningful to present her with this award.”

A 1976 graduate of The Florida State University who earned her degree in finance and marketing, Hillis has had a stellar career in the banking industry for more than 30 years. Despite the demands of her career, Hillis has held several leadership roles with the Alumni Association and the FSU Foundation, including co-chair of the $600 million “FSU Connect” capital campaign. She currently serves as vice chair of the FSU College of Business Board of Governors.

Hillis and her husband, Mark, established the Mark and Nan Casper Hillis Endowed Fund for Real Estate and the Nan Casper Hillis and Mark Hillis Endowed Fund for Finance, both in the FSU College of Business, as well as the Mark and Nan Casper Hillis Dining Room at the FSU Alumni Center. They also have made deferred gifts to the FSU Foundation and Seminole Boosters. Mark Hillis, a 1964 alumnus, was previously inducted into the Circle of Gold and has been named a member of the FSU Board of Trustees. His five-year term will begin in 2010.
