FSU Foundation Appoints Interim President
Florida State University Vice President for University Relations and Advancement Lee Hinkle has announced that Steve Evans has been selected to serve as The Florida State University Foundation’s interim president.
Evans succeeds Charles Rasberry, who stepped down as Foundation president in June.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Steve on board,” said Hinkle. “He is recognized as a productive and effective leader who has a proven track record in helping organizations achieve their goals. Steve brings a wealth of knowledge to the Foundation and we look forward to his guidance and experience during the coming months.”
Evans retired from IBM in the fall of 2003 with more than 30 years of sales, operations, marketing and executive experience. During his career, he developed a wealth of knowledge and successful business practices from working with small, medium and large enterprises throughout North America in the government, health and education industries.
In 1986, he and his family moved to Tallahassee, where he assumed responsibility for IBM’s Public Sector Industry and served as senior state executive. In 1997, he became IBM’s vice president of marketing and sales for North America and its Global Education division, while maintaining responsibility as IBM’s senior state executive until his retirement.
In addition to serving on the boards of local, state and national organizations, Evans is the immediate past chair of Florida TaxWatch and served as its chief operating officer. He has strong ties to Florida State and serves on the Advisory Board of the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship in the College of Business and has served as a mentor for students in that program. He also is a member of the FSU Office of Research Grant Assistance Program (GAP) Committee, which was established by the FSU Research Foundation as a funding mechanism to help researchers move their work out of the laboratory and into the commercial sector. Evans is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
The Florida State University Foundation, Inc. enhances the academic vision and priorities of FSU through its organized fundraising activities and funds management. The Foundation, a non-profit corporation established in 1960, is governed by an elected Board of Trustees, whose members serve as advocates for the university, its colleges, schools and programs.
